The ETQ Gen 2 wasn't redesigned simply to release a new version. It was refined through real-world use, customer feedback, and continuous engineering improvements.

Every update was driven by a simple question: how can we make a tourniquet that's easier to carry, faster to apply, and more reliable when lives depend on it?

The engineering behind the ETQ

Power Curve™ (patent pending)

Traditional tourniquets use a straight slot where the compression band passes through. The ETQ Gen 2 features our patented Power Curve™, which changes how force is distributed across the band.

The curved geometry concentrates tension toward the center of the band, promoting more even circumferential pressure around the limb. Straight slots tend to concentrate tension along the outer edges, which can create uneven compression during prolonged applications.

Tri-Grip Windlass™ (patent pending)

The additional surface area gives users a more secure grip, especially when hands are wet, bloody, or gloved. During development we also found that overly aggressive textures on some tourniquets could damage nitrile gloves, increasing exposure to bloodborne pathogens. The Tri-Grip profile strikes a balance between traction and glove-friendly operation.

Manufactured from a high-strength polymer composite, it is engineered for durability and dependable performance.

Power Ring™ (patent pending)

The Power Ring™ is a steel reinforcement positioned beneath the windlass that improves the initial turns during application.

On many windlass tourniquets, the first rotations require the greatest effort. The Power Ring creates additional clearance over the carabiner while providing mechanical advantage that makes those initial turns smoother and easier.

Strength and durability

The ETQ is overbuilt on purpose. If a windlass snaps under pressure, the tourniquet has failed at the one moment it exists for, and no other feature matters.

In testing, we ran one over with a 6,500 pound dually and it still performed. See the torture test.

Limb range: constricts to one inch

The ETQ is designed to constrict down to a 1″ diameter, which puts small limbs inside its working range rather than at the edge of it — adults through children, and canines or other small-limbed animals.

That range is not theoretical. The usage record includes a 9-year-old with an arm laceration and a

13-year-old after an e-bike collision, both with the tourniquet applied and both survived. There is no canine case in the record; the K9 range is a property of the design, not something the record evidences yet.

Improved tourniquet body

The Gen 2 body was redesigned with a longer overall geometry and improved strap routing to help maintain proper alignment during application.

While proper application always requires tightening the band before turning the windlass, the redesigned body is more forgiving of common user errors encountered during training and helps maintain a straighter configuration throughout application.

Reinforced compression band

The Gen 2 compression band incorporates a reinforced webbing backing that increases rigidity while reducing the tendency for the band to fold onto itself during application.

This improvement makes the ETQ easier to route around a limb, thread through the buckle, and apply quickly under stress.

Enlarged carabiner lock

The internal opening of the carabiner lock has been significantly enlarged while maintaining the same external footprint.

This provides additional clearance when securing the windlass after multiple rotations, making final lock-up easier during demanding applications.

• Auto-locks, so the windlass cannot unwind in transport — more secure than a hook-and-loop strap
• Doubles as a mount: attaches to a key ring, backpack, belt loop or MOLLE

Printed instructions and QR code

Every ETQ includes printed instructions and a QR code linking to application resources.

While proper training is always recommended, these references provide an additional layer of guidance for bystanders or users who may need to assist during an emergency.

Dedicated training tourniquets

Skill and confidence come through repetition.

Dedicated Blue Trainer ETQs are available in both 1-inch and 1.5-inch widths, allowing users to practice applications without placing unnecessary wear on their everyday carry or duty tourniquets.

Why we removed the chem light

One of the changes from Gen 1 was the removal of the integrated chem light.

During everyday carry, chem lights frequently activated unintentionally or broke during shipping. Eliminating this component allowed us to improve overall material selection, simplify manufacturing, and invest in more robust construction, all while maintaining the same retail price as the Gen 1.
